In the 1800s, the Library of Congress was founded by Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson believed that many of our greatest inventions and achievements came from those who were well-educated. In those days, if you weren’t educated you didn’t get a job and you were left to fend for yourself. When we grow up we want to go to school and learn new things.

Perhaps we even go on to study to become a scientist or an engineer. It is important that we not only learn but also apply what we learn. Most likely it will be applied in some form to our daily lives, whether it’s making a great sandwich or writing a great song.
